Frequently asked questions
What is the inflation adjustment?
The real value shows what your future balance is worth in today's purchasing power, after accounting for inflation. If inflation is 2.5% and your balance grows to $100,000 in 20 years, the real value is about $61,000 in today's money.
What compounding frequency should I choose?
Choose the frequency that matches your account: savings accounts typically compound monthly, bonds quarterly or annually. More frequent compounding gives slightly higher returns at the same nominal rate.
Does this include taxes or fees?
No. The calculator uses the nominal rate you enter. Real returns are lower after taxes on interest, management fees and inflation. Use a slightly lower rate to account for these.
Is this financial advice?
No. This is a mathematical projection tool. Actual investment returns vary and past performance does not guarantee future results. Consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions.
