Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my electricity rate?

Your electricity rate (cost per kWh) is on your electricity bill, usually listed as the "unit rate" or "energy charge". Rates vary by country and provider — typical ranges are $0.10–$0.30/kWh in the US and €0.20–€0.40/kWh in Europe.

What is a kWh?

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the energy used by a 1000-watt appliance running for one hour. A 100W bulb running for 10 hours uses 1 kWh. Your electricity meter counts kWh.

How do I find the wattage of my appliance?

Check the label on the back or bottom of the appliance, the manual, or search the model number online. Air conditioners and heaters often list BTU — divide BTU/h by 3.412 to get watts.

Can I calculate the cost for a whole month?

Yes — set days to 30 for a monthly estimate. The annual cost field automatically scales to 365 days regardless of the days you enter.

Why is my actual bill higher?

This calculator covers energy consumption only. Your bill may also include standing charges, taxes, network fees and VAT. Add those fixed costs to get the full bill amount.
