Frequently asked questions

What is a weighted GPA?

A weighted GPA accounts for the number of credit hours each course carries. A 3-credit A contributes more to your GPA than a 1-credit A. The formula is: GPA = sum(grade points × credits) ÷ total credits.

What GPA scale does this use?

The standard US 4.0 scale: A/A+ = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.

What is a good GPA?

A GPA of 3.5 or above is generally considered excellent. 3.0–3.49 is good, 2.5–2.99 is satisfactory, and below 2.0 may put you on academic probation at many institutions.

Can I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Yes — enter all your courses from all semesters and the calculator will give you the cumulative weighted GPA across all of them.

Does this include plus/minus grades?

Yes. The calculator supports A−, B+, B−, C+, C− and all standard plus/minus grades on the 4.0 scale.
