Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the location?

IP geolocation is accurate to the country level in almost all cases, and to the city level for most IPs. However, it shows the location of the ISP's network, not your exact physical location — VPNs and proxies will show the VPN server's location.

What API does this use?

The tool uses the ipapi.co public API, which provides free IP geolocation data. A network request is made to their servers to fetch the data — your IP is sent to their API as part of the lookup.

Can I look up private IP addresses?

No — private IP ranges (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x) are not routable on the internet and have no geolocation data. Only public IP addresses can be looked up.

Why does my IP show a different city?

ISPs often route traffic through regional hubs, so your IP may be registered to a city that is not where you physically are. This is normal and does not mean the tool is wrong.
