Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas — your images never leave your device, and nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by any server.
Which format compresses best?
WebP usually produces the smallest files at the same visual quality — often 20–30% smaller than JPEG. JPEG is the safest universal choice, while PNG is lossless and best kept for graphics that need transparency; converting a photo to PNG usually makes it much larger.
Does compression reduce image quality?
JPEG and WebP are lossy formats: lower quality means smaller files but more visible artifacts. Around 75–85 is usually indistinguishable from the original for photos. PNG output is lossless, so quality is unchanged — but the file may not get smaller.
What is the maximum file size?
Images up to 30 MB can be processed. The limit keeps compression fast and reliable on phones; very large photos can also be shrunk by setting a smaller maximum width.
