Frequently asked questions
How is the daily water need calculated?
The base formula is 35 ml per kg of body weight, adjusted upward for higher activity levels, hot climates and pregnancy/breastfeeding. This is a general guideline — individual needs vary.
Does this include water from food?
No. About 20% of daily water intake comes from food (fruits, vegetables, soups). The calculator shows total fluid intake needed, including food sources.
What counts as water intake?
All beverages count: water, tea, coffee, juice and milk. Caffeinated drinks have a mild diuretic effect but still contribute to hydration. Alcohol does not count — it increases water loss.
How do I know if I am drinking enough?
The simplest indicator is urine color: pale yellow means well-hydrated, dark yellow means drink more. Thirst is a late indicator — drink regularly throughout the day.
